Bray Musical Society was established in 1952 and has staged a concert or a full-scale musical (often both) almost every year since.
We now also do a pantomime in November and we enjoy taking part in the AIMS New Ross Choral Festival in May.
Initially we staged operettas, including Waltzes from Vienna, Rose Marie, White Horse Inn, and The Merry Widow. But times changed and we changed with them, to produce shows such as My Fair Lady, Fiddler on the Roof, and Annie Get Your Gun. Then someone suggested doing shows which starred a lot of children, i.e. Oliver and Annie. This initiative is still paying dividends, as many of those ‘children’ are now active adult members of the society. More recently we have concentrated on big chorus/dancing musicals, including West Side Story, Me & My Girl, The Hot Mikado, Crazy for You, Honk, Carousel, Copacabana, Pippin, All Shook Up, and 9 to 5.
In recent years, we stage a pantomime before Christmas, including Babes in the Wood, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella in Venice, Puss in Boots and Little Red Riding Hood. They have proved a great day out for all the family.
In 2012, BMS celebrated it’s 60th year with a concert. Performers included past members Ross Scanlon and Fiona O’Carroll, who came back from the West End to celebrate with us. We planned The Wedding Singer for 2020 but, alas, covid shut us down just a week before opening.
