After witnessing a mob murder, aspiring disco singer Deloris Van Cartier finds herself on the run and in protective custody in the very last place anyone would expect - a convent! Initially reluctant, Deloris is convinced to use her musical talents to transform the struggling choir and in doing so helps save the convent, and her new found sisterhood - but will her efforts expose her location to the mobsters who are hunting her?
