Societies & Shows 2010

The '09/'10 AIMS Adjudication season has just finished. This year we had a total of 86 productions, an increase of one on last season, with 43 shows in the Gilbert section and 43 shows in the Sullivan section. This year saw a lot of societies turning to newer shows, including a number of premieres, with 5 productions of "Beauty & The Beast", 4 productions of "All Shook Up", 3 productions of "The Wedding Singer" and 1 production of "The Pirate Queen". But the old favourites are still proving a strong attraction, with 5 productions of "Oliver!", 4 productions of "Fiddler On The Roof" and 3 productions of "Oklahoma!"

26 shows took to the stage before the New Year, the same as last season, with the remaining 60 shows running in 2010. Yet again, the first show of the season was performed by Newry Musical & Orchestral Society when they presented "Calamity Jane", which opened on 18th May 2009. Three shows shared the final night performances of the season. The were "The Pirates of Penzance", performed by New Lyric Operatic Company, Belfast, "The Mikado", performed by Newcastle Glees Musical Society and "Oklahoma!", performed by St. Mary's Musical Society, Clonmel, all of which closed on 8th May 2010.
