Adjudication & Awards Scheme
Another May, another end-of-season for societies involved in the Adjudication and Awards Scheme. The '11/'12 season saw 82 shows adjudicated by Emer Halpenny and Andrea Rae, down from 87 in the previous year. This year, the Gilbert section had 45 shows and the Sullivan section had 37 shows.
Show choice is still very much about bums-on-seats, with 9 productions of Disney's "Beauty & The Beast" and 8 productions of the Elvis-styled "All Shook Up". Given the recent anniversary, it is no surprise to see 3 productions of "Titanic The Musical" in this year's scheme.
Despite the necessity for some societies to play it safe with their show choice, there are still groups bringing new shows to local audiences. This season saw the premiere productions of "A Tale of Two Cities", "Aida", "Andy Capp", "Big The Musical" and "The Boys in the Photograph".
